Here's our story:
Diane Friedman founded Tahki Yarns in 1968, when she discovered a mill in County Donegal Ireland that was spinning lovely wool tweed weaving yarns for hand-loomed fabrics. From that trip, Donegal Tweed was born. Some years later, her search for the world’s most beautiful mercerized cotton brought her to a mill in Greece, where she developed Cotton Classic. These are just two of the many natural-fiber yarns which are the company’s trademark. Today, as then, Tahki Yarns is known for high-quality and affordable yarns, with a pattern line inspired by American sportswear.
Stacy Charles seemingly grew up in the yarn industry. He started in the business working for his Uncle Sam and Aunt Irma, who supplied buttons to the RTW market and imported European yarns to the hand-knitting market. Some years later, Stacy’s love of European fashion and knitting inspired him to start his own eponymous company, importing the prestigious Filatura di Crosa line for the American market, along with countless designer labels, most notably MISSONI.
In the Fall of 1999, Diane and Stacy, two New York-based friends and colleagues, decided to merge their companies and in January of 2000 TAHKI STACY CHARLES was born. It was a match made in heaven! Tahki Stacy Charles covers the entire yarn market bringing American knitters beautiful yarns and patterns at every price point.
Today, TSC Yarns is comprised of four distinct brands:
Filatura Di Crosa – Since 1939, this Italian mill has cemented its position as the finest spinner of hand-knitting yarns for the world. FDC spins high-quality classic yarns including the extrafine merino “Zara Family,” the Golden Line of cashmere and other luxury fiber yarns, and innovative fashion yarns that are created for each season. FDC design collections of Italian Fashion at its finest are introduced each Spring and Fall.
Loop-d-Loop by Teva Durham – Teva designs this brand exclusively for TSC. She instinctively knows fibers, and creates designs which take advantage of their inherent characteristics. Her clever matching of stitch patterns to her yarns creates her distinctive shapes and looks.
S. Charles Collezione – TSC’s high-fashion designer collection. Textures and colors inspired by the world of fashion are the hallmark of this brand. All yarns, such as Crystal, Luna and Stella, are customized to mix-and-match, creating unique contrasts of texture in coordinated color palettes. These sophisticated yarns are spun from the best luxury fibers available, including mohair, merino, silk, and cashmere. Patterns are trend-driven, inspired by Seventh Avenue ready- to-wear collections.
Tahki Yarns – Innovative natural-fiber yarns at affordable prices have made Tahki Yarns a favorite go-to brand for over 40 years. All-natural eco-friendly fibers from the Terra Collection, the famous Donegal Tweed and Cotton Classic, and vibrant self-patterning multicolor yarns, such as Presto, are just a small part of the Tahki Yarns brand. Weekend casual looks are the design sensibility of this collection.
